Storytime Programs - Fall I, 2016, Week Two

Welcome to the second week of Fall I storytime programs.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us.   Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Baby Rhyme Time (For babies 0-11 months and a caregiver)

Books

Action Rhyme: Itsy-Bitsy Spider
The itsy-bitsy spider,
Climbed up the water spout.
Down came the rain,
And washed the spider out.
Out came the sun,
And dried up all the rain.
And the itsy-bitsy spider,
Climbed up the spout again.

Songs, rhymes, and fingerplays help children learn the smaller sounds in words, a necessary building block for reading.

Action Rhyme: Splash!

Rain is falling down, SPLASH! (clap hands loudly)
Falling to the ground, SPLASH!
Pitter patter, pitter patter,
Rain is falling down, SPLASH!

Make sure to pause briefly before the "Splash" in each line to build suspense!  When you blend the expected continuation of the rhyme with unexpected pauses you lay the foundation for humor.  Your toddler will definitely respond with giggles!
