Storytime Programs - Fall I, 2016, Week One

Welcome to the first week of Fall I storytime programs.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us.   Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

All the little babies just to love bounce!
Lean to the left,
Lean to the right,
Hug that baby nice and tight!

Babies love bouncing on your lap!  Did you know that when you sing while bouncing your baby, you are actually helping him develop an understand of the rhythm of speech?

Point out different animals to your toddler - on a walk, at the zoo, or simply in picture books.  Make the animal noises and see if your toddler can repeat them back to you. Talk about the animals, count their legs, find their eyes, etc.  Remember, Gail Borden Public Library is a great resource for animal-themed books, puppets, puzzles, CD's and more!

If you get up in the morning at quarter to one,
And you want to have a little fun,
You brush your teeth ch ch ch ch ch,
And you want to find something to do,
You brush your teeth ch ch ch ch ch,
And you want to hum a tweedle dee dee,
You brush your teeth ch ch ch ch ch ch,
And you think you hear a knock at the door,
You brush your teeth ch ch ch ch ch,
You brush your teeth ch ch ch ch ch,
(If you get up in the morning at a quarter to 2,
If you get up in the morning at quarter to three,
If you get in the morning at a quarter to four,
If you get up in the morning and it’s quarter to five,
And you just can’t wait to come alive.)

Storytime this week is a great opportunity to talk with your toddler about his teeth.  Help him count them.  Ask him how he takes care of them and why.  What does he use his teeth for?

(Place one hand, with fingers straight upwards, on top of your head.)
Great white shark, great white shark, lurking in the water,
Great white shark, great white shark,
 Gulp, gulp, gulp!
Oh, no! It’s been eaten by a …

(Make a large circle with your arms to make yourself into a humongous whale.)
Humongous whale, humongous whale, spouting in the water,
Humongous whale, humongous whale,
Gulp! … gulp! … gulp! … BURP!
(Cover your mouth.) Excuse me!

Children of all ages love to learn about creatures that live in water.  The fish tank in the Early Learning Center is a great place to relate our storytime to your child's experiences. Have a conversation about what you can see.  Talk about the colors of the fish and what they are doing, count them.  Can you find the turtle?
