Storytime Programs - Fall II, 2016 - Week Five

Welcome to the fifth week of Fall II storytime programs.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us.   Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Baby Rhyme Time (For babies 0-11 months and a caregiver)

Books
My First Touch and Feel Pets by Tiger Tales Click here to find the book in the catalog.
The Babies and Doggies Book by Schindel Click here to find the book in the catalog.

Bouncing Rhyme: I Had a Little Mouse
I had a little mouse
Who never would eat his cheese
All he ever wanted to do was bounce upon my knees
Bounce upon my knees
Bounce upon my knees
All he ever wanted to do was bounce upon my knees

Read books and sing rhymes that tell stories.  This will help your baby develop sequencing skills.

Wonderful Ones (For babies 12-23 months and a caregiver)

Books
Where to Sleep by Radzinski Click here to find the book in the catalog.
Sleep Song by Ray Click here to find the book in the catalog.

Action Rhyme: Stars
At night I see the twinkling stars (open and close hands)
And a great big smiling moon (circle arms over head)
My mommy tucks me into bed
And sings a goodnight tune (rocking motion with hands)

Children love and thrive on routine.  What is your bedtime routine with your toddler?  Be sure to include some quiet, snuggling time with a story or two.

Terrific Twos (For toddlers 2-3 years and a caregiver)

Book
If You're Happy and You Know It by Cabrera Click here to find the book in the catalog.

Action Rhyme: I'm a Lion
I love to sleep out in the sun (rest cheek on hand)
And chase other animals just for fun (run in place)
In the jungle I'm number one! (hold up one finger)
I'm a LION! (roar loudly)

Roar loudly.  Can you roar quietly too?  Can you sing loudly and quietly? Walk loudly and quietly?  What else can you do loudly and quietly?

1, 2, Go!  (For children 1-3 years and a caregiver)

Books
Fall Is Not Easy by Kelley Click here to find the book in the catalog.
I Feel Fall Weather by Schuh Click here to find the book in the catalog.

Action Rhyme: Rain Is Falling Down
Rain is falling down, splash! (wiggle fingers from high to low as if raining)
Rain is falling down, splash!
Pitter patter, pitter patter
Rain is falling down, splash!
Sun is peeking out, peek! (peek from behind hands)
Sun is peeking out, peek!
Peeking here, peeking there,
Sun is peeking out, peek!

Action rhymes like this one are a fun way for toddlers to strengthen muscles in fingers and hands in preparation for writing.  The ability to move fingers independently of each other is also necessary for this skill.

Books
My Crayons Talk by Hubbard Click here to find the book in the catalog.
Blue Chicken by Freedman Click here to find the book in the catalog.

Then please shake your head
If you're wearing red, shake your head
Additional verses:
Blue, touch your shoe
Yellow, shake like jell-o
Brown, turn around
Pink, give us a wink
Grey, shout hooray!
