Storytime Programs - Summer 2016, Week Three

Welcome to the third week of of our summer storytimes.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us and continue to make a visit to the library part of  your summer routine.   Don't forget to pick up your summer reading log if you haven't done so already!  Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Tiny Tales  (For babies 0-23 months and an adult caregiver)

Books
The End of the Rainbow by Donnelly
(presented as a flannel story with puppets)
The Sky by Dewey (presented as a flannel story)

Action Rhyme: I See Rainbows (Tune: Frere Jacques)
I see rainbows (draw a rainbow shape in air with finger)
I see rainbows
Way up high (point up high)
In the sky
They are red and orange
Yellow, green and blue
Purple too
What a view (hand shading eyes to look at view)

Families sang and waved colored ribbons along with a version of I Can Sing a Rainbow.  If you'd like to listen to the song again, click on the following image:

Remember, children learn from repetition.  Reinforce color learning everyday.  Talk about the color of clothing as you dress your child in the morning, point out the colors of fruit and vegetables in the grocery store, look for green things when you are on a neighborhood walk.....

Starry Time Stories (For children 2 years -Kindergarten with adult caregiver)

Books
Who Is Tapping At My Window? - Deming

Puppet Story
Who Took The Farmer's Hat? - based on the book by Nodset

Movie
Kitten's First Full Moon - based on the book by Henkes

If your child enjoyed this movie based on the warm and humorous bestseller of the same title by Henkes, listen to the book by clicking on the following image, or check it out from the library:

Of course in this story, kitten mistakes the moon for a bowl of milk.  What shape is the "bowl of milk" in the sky?  Can you find other things in your house or outside that are the same shape?  Can you draw the shape?
