Storytime Programs - Summer 2016, Week Two

Welcome to the second week of of our summer storytimes.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us and continue to make a visit to the library part of  your summer routine.   Don't forget to pick up your summer reading log if you haven't done so already!  Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Tiny Tales  (For babies 0-23 months and an adult caregiver)

Books
Goodnight Moon by Brown
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (big book)

Flannel Rhyme: Hey Diddle Diddle
Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed,
To see such fun,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Traditional rhymes like this one often contain vocabulary that you would not use in everyday life.  And that is fine, because children need to hear vocabulary in many different contexts.

Starry Time Stories (For children 2 years -Kindergarten with adult caregiver)

Books
Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing by Barrett

Flannel Rhyme: Aikendrum
There was a man lived in the moon, in the moon, in the moon.
There was a man lived in the moon and his name was Aikendrum.
And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle.
He played upon a ladle and his name was Aikendrum.

And his hair was made of spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti.  His hair was made of spaghetti and his name was Aikendrum.
And his eyes were made of meatballs, meatballs, meatballs.
His eyes were made of meatballs and his name was Aikendrum.
And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle.
He played upon a ladle and his name was Aikendrum.

And his nose was made of cheese, cheese, cheese
His nose was made of cheese and his name was Aikendrum.
And his mouth was made of pizza, pizza, pizza.
His mouth was made of pizza and his name was Aikendrum.
And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle.
He played upon a ladle and his name was Aikendrum.

There was a man lived in the moon, in the moon, in the moon.
There was a man lived in the moon and his name was Aikendrum.

Your could also check it out on a CD.  Click on the following links to our catalog for CD's containing this song:

Ask your child to use his imagination and make up some more silly verses!  What could Aikendrum's ears be made of? What about his eyebrows?
