It's Fun To Learn At The Library!

Here in KidSpace we are busy planning exciting programs for the spring session and beyond. Although there's no storytime until March 14, be sure to stop in the library during this two week break - make a visit part of your routine.  Some of the learning activities you and your child can enjoy together in the Early Learning Center are:

  • The Craft - this week's craft is a frog and involves coloring, cutting and folding.  These are all skills that will help in the development of your child's fine motor skills.
  • The Dramatic Play Area - Gail's Barn is a popular area with the little ones.  Talk with your child about the animals - what can your child tell you about them?  Use the flannel animals on the board to sing some verses of Old MacDonald Had A Farm together.
  • The Block Table - playing in this area requires taking turns and sharing the pieces with other children, pretend play, and fine motor skills.
  • The Ready...Set...Read Literacy Activity changes every two weeks. The current activity is a fun animal and peg game to play with your preschooler after reading Down By The Barn by Hillenbrand.  Ask for the pieces at the desk.  In fact, if you've never heard about our literacy activity before, stop by the Help Desk and ask for more information!
  • The STEAM Activity changes on a regular basis.  The current activity focuses on shapes and will help your child learn about mathematics and technology in a fun and interactive way.  Ask for the pieces at the Help Desk.
Allow time for you and your child to choose some books together too.  Follow your child's interests and find some old favorites and some new ones too.  If your child likes bears, for example, select a good storybook, and then also a simple book with some interesting facts about bears.  How about a bear puppet or puzzle?  Or a CD with some bear songs?  Encourage and continue the learning in a fun and interesting way!  Remember to ask at the Help Desk if you need ideas or help finding materials. We love making our customers happy!
