Spring Session, Week 7
Welcome to the Spring 2014 Session of our Ready, Set Read! Blog, Week 7!  This is the last week on our Spring Session and we will be on hiatus until June.  Our Summer programing will be aligned with the “Paws to Read” reading program!  Be sure to check out your child’s programs which will be aptly named with the “Paws to Read” theme in June.   Please come pick up a reading log for Summer Reading starting May 1st!
Baby Rhyme Time!

We are having fun with your little one this week!  We read the books Watch Me Dance by Andrea & Brian Pinkney and Global Babies by The Global Fund for Children .
Here are some songs that we used in our program for you to use at home…

Rhyme: I Am (Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
I am kicking my little feet.
I am keeping quite a beat.
I am stretching my arms high.
I am reaching up to the sky.
I am patting my little tum.
I am playing on my drum.

Rhyme: If You’re Happy and You Know It
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it,
Then your face will surely show it.
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
(Give a Hug, Tap Your Knees)

To continue the fun, play the “Body Part” game by tickling and saying the part of the body on your little one.

Wonderful Ones
This week we are having fun with our little ones!  Some books that we read this week Naptime for Kitty by Michael Dahl and Pets by Tiger Tales .

Here are some songs that we used in our program for you to use at home…

Rhyme: There are bubbles in the air
(Tune:  “If You’re Happy And You Know It”)
There are bubbles in the air, in the air.
There are bubbles in my hair, in my hair.
There are bubbles in the air,
there are bubbles in my hair.
There are bubbles everywhere, everywhere!

Continue the fun at home by checking out the book, Baby’s best friend by Rachel Hail.

Terrific Twos!

This week is all about Elephants!  Here are some books to read to with your child that goes along with our theme: If Elephants Wore Pants by Henriette Barkow and Elephants Aloft by Kathi Baker.

Here are some songs and rhymes we used in our program this week….

Rhyme:
Who is the animal baggy and grey, (circle both arms)
That walks in the forest with a sway? (sway both arms)
Who runs around on big, big toes, (point to toes)
And feeds himself with his nose? (point to nose)
The elephant! (swing trunk)

Rhyme:
He’s ever so big and ever so fat (hold hands high and then apart)
he has no hands, he has no toes, (shake finger and head for no)
But goodness gracious, (hands on cheeks)
Such a nose! (put right fist on nose and go down, making an
imaginary trunk).

To extend our theme at home review the different animals you may
see at the zoo.  Talk about what sounds they make and how they
move!

1, 2, 3, Go!
This week we are talking about Summer! We read the following during our story time: Mouse’s First Summer by Lauren Thompson and Summer is Summer by Phillis and David Gershator.

Rhyme A Ladybug
A ladybug crawls up your arm
and sits right on your nose
A ladybug slides down your arm
and hops onto your toes
A ladybug creeps up your leg
and lands upon your knee
Then scurries to your folded hands
and snuggles down to sleep

Rhyme: Oh Mr. Sun- Submitted by Sherry
Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun
Won't you please shine down on me
Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun
Hiding behind the tree
These little children are asking you
To please come out so they can play with you
Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun
Won't you please shine down on
Please shine down on,
please shine down on me

To extend our Summer theme at home, make “Bucket List” with your child of the things you want to do together this Summer!

Story Mix for 3-6
We are having Doggy fun this week!  A couple of books we read are: Move over, Rover by Karen Beumont and The Doghouse by Jan Thomas.

Rhyme:
Oh, where? Oh, where has my little dog gone?
Oh, where? Oh, where can he be?
With his ears cut short
And his tail cut long
Oh, where? Oh, where can he be?

Here! Oh, here is my little lost dog!
He’s here, right here behind me!
With his ears cut short
And his tail cut long
He’s here, right here behind me!

Rhyme:
My little puppy’s name is Rags
He eats so much that his tummy sags
His ears flip flop and his tail wags
And when he walks his hips zig zag!

Continue the Doggy fun by singing the traditional BINGO song.  It’s a great way to learn letters, rhyming and simple spelling.
