Spring Session, Week 6
Welcome to the Spring 2014 Session of our Ready, Set Read! Blog, Week 6!  We have lots of things to share from our different programs for you to try with your little ones at home. 

Baby Rhyme Time!
We are having Animal fun with your little one this week!  We read the books Baby Animals - A Rookie Reader and Hello, Day by Anita Lobel.
Here are some songs that we used in our program for you to use at home… 

Rhyme: Critter Speak
What do pigs say?
What do pigs say?
What do pigs say?
They oink, oink, oink all day.
(Cows, Sheep)

Rhyme: Clippity, Clippity, Clop
Clippity, clippity, clop.
The horses go clip, clop.
They gallop and gallop,
They start and they stop.
Clippity, clippity ,clop.

To continue the fun, talk about what animals say as you see them in your day to day life.

Wonderful Ones
This week we are having fun with our little ones!  Some books that we read this week This is my Duck by Sam Tablin and Kipper’s Book of Weather by Mick Inkpen.
Here are some songs that we used in our program for you to use at home… 
Rhyme: Bumble Bee Fly
Bumble bee fly high
Bumble bee fly low
Bumble bee goes buzz, buzz, buzz
And landed on my nose!

Terrific Twos!

This week is all about Zebras!  Here are some books to read to with your child that goes along with our theme: Zara Zebra Gets Dressed by Brigitte Weininger and I Love to Sing by Anna Walker. 

Here are some songs and rhymes we used in our program this week….

Rhyme: (Tune: 10 Little Indians) 
One little, two little, three little zebras,  (hold up # of fingers
Four little, five little, six little zebras,
seven little, eight little, nine little zebras,
Galloping across the plain.
Nine little, eight little, seven little zebras,
Six little, five little, four little zebras,
Three little, two little, one little zebra
Galloping back again.

Rhyme: 5 Zebras 
1 friendly zebra with nothing to do,
she found another and then there were 2.
2 friendly zebras looked behind a tree,
they found another and then there were 3.
3 friendly zebras went to find some more,
they found another and then there were 4.
4 friendly zebras looking so alive,
they found another and then there were 5.
5 friendly zebras played in the sun,
they all ran home… and then there were none!

This week we are are talking about Frogs!  A book we read was
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? By Bill Martin Jr.  

Rhyme: Five little speckled frogs ( Sung Twice)
Five little speckled frogs
Sitting on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious bugs
Yum Yum
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four speckled frogs
Glub, glub
...and so on in descending order

Rhyme: If you are (Sung Twice)
Tune: If you're happy and you know it)
If you're a frog and you know it say "ribbit ribbit"
If you're a frog and you know it say " ribbit ribbit "
If you're a Frog and you know it, then you really ought to show it,
If you're a frog and you know it say "ribbit ribbit"
(repeat song with "parrot say squawk squawk"; "dog  say woof woof")

To extend this theme at home, place down pillows on the floor and
have your child leap like a from on to each pillow like a lillypad!
