Storytime Programs - Winter, 2016 - Week Three

Welcome to the third week of winter storytime programs.  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us.   Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Baby Rhyme Time (For babies 0-11 months and a caregiver)

Books
Watch Me Dance - Pinkney
If You're Happy and You Know It - Kubler

Acrion Rhyme: Did You Ever See a Baby?
(Tune: Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
Did you ever see a baby,
A baby, a baby?
Did you ever see a baby,
Dance this way and that?
Dance this way and that way,
Dance this way and that way,
Did you ever see a baby,
Dance this way and that?

We play many types of music in this program because babies love music!  Listening to it can be fun and relaxing, it can be soothing, and it can make you want to get up and dance together!

Wonderful Ones (For babies 12-23 months and a caregiver)

Books
Busy, Busy Mouse - Kroll
Books Are Everywhere - Blatt

Action Rhyme: Little Mouse
(Creep fingers up baby's back)
See the little mouse,
Creeping up the stair,
Looking for a warm place,
There oh there.  (Tickle baby's neck)

In storytime the little mouse tickled baby's neck.  Where will he tickle next time?  Make a fun tickling game out of this rhyme and listen to the giggles!

Terrific Twos (For toddlers 2-3 years and a caregiver)

Books
Acorns Everywhere - Sherry
That Pup! - George

Action Rhyme: Squirrel, Squirrel
Squirrel, squirrel, turn around,
Squirrel, squirrel, touch the ground,
Squirrel, squirrel, climb the tree,
Now shake that bushy tail at me.

Turn the rhyme into a game with your toddler by thinking of more actions.  Can your child nod his head, bend his knees...?  Take turns giving directions.

1, 2, Go!  (For children 1-3 years and a caregiver)

Books

Can You Cuddle Like a Koala? - Butler
Are You My Brown Bear? - Ziefert

Action Rhyme: Koala Bear
Koala bear, koala bear, turn around,
Koala bear, koala bear, touch the ground,
Koala bear, koala bear, dance on your toes,
Koala bear, koala bear, touch your nose,
Koala bear, koala bear, give a clap,
Koala bear, koala bear, take a nap.

We read and sang about all kinds of bears this week.  Does your child have a favorite bear to sing this rhyme with?

The Princess and the Pea - Ziefert
Snowy Bear - Mitton
Llama Llama Red Pajama - Dewdney

Action Rhyme: Princess Wore a Crown

Find something gold in your house.  What other things can be gold?
