Welcome to Summer 2014!
Paws to Read programs
for ages Birth-Kindergarten

We hope you enjoy taking a look at the different things we are doing this summer with the children.  Feel free to use these ideas to continue the fun at home!

Tiny Tales - Birth-23 months old
This week in Tiny Tales we are talking about Pets.  There are all kinds of pets to talk about from dogs and cats to rabbits and hamsters!  A couple of the books we read include Huggly Snuggly Pets by Gwen Pascoe and Tails are Not for Pulling by Elizabeth Verdick.

Pets
My pet rabbit goes hop, hop, hop
Hop, hop, hop
Hop, hop, hop
My pet rabbit goes hop, hop, hop
All day long...
(Dog - wags his tail/Cat-cleans his fur/Snake- goes hiss/Turtle - goes snap/Bird - goes flap)

To extend the theme at home, introduce the sounds different pets make to your little one!

Wiggles n' Giggles - 9-23 Months
This week in Wiggles n' Giggles we are talking all about Puppies!  We read Hello, Puppy! by Jane Cowen-Fletcher and Puppy by Michael Twinn.

After a Bath
After my bath, I try, try, try
To wipe myself 'til I'm dry, dry, dry
Hands to wipe, and fingers, and toes,
And two wet legs and a shiny nose.
Just think, hos much less time I'd take,
If I were a dog, and could shake, shake, shake!

Three Little Puppies

Three little puppies in a basket lay.
Wake up little puppies it’s time to play.
One little, two little, three little puppies,
All awake now and ready for their day.

Another extension for home, try play acting "doggie" with your little one.  Make the different sounds dogs make to introduce dogs to your baby.

Puppy Dog Tales -Age 2-Kindergarten
We started the program talking about Dogs!  We read the book Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion and Emma's Pet by David McPhail.

At the Dog Park
Five big dogs walking in the park,
Running with their masters,
Bark, bark, bark.
One dog goes home,
It's almost dark!
(Continue counting down, 4, 3, 2, 1)

To extend the theme at home, talk about what dogs like to do!  If you have a chance to visit with a friendly pooch do so, but make sure to go over "dog" etiquette!  Ie. Always ask the owner before petting, tales are not for pulling, etc.
